Professional Development

The Conference provides dozens of informative training programs every year, ranging from fundamental trial skills development to specialized programs focusing on a particular criminal law area. Some of these training programs are designed exclusively for prosecutors, but many are open to law enforcement, legal assistants, court staff, and other allied professionals. The Conference gratefully acknowledges the grant funding that makes many of these trainings possible.

Fundamentals of Juvenile Justice

  • September 18, 2024

As the juvenile court system keeps evolving, it’s crucial for law enforcement professionals and other allied professionals to stay up to date with the legal changes regarding juvenile matters. The one-day training session will mainly focus on juvenile procedures, investigations, the roles of School Resource Officers, “Raise the Age” information, and a juvenile law update. Additionally, community organizations will be present to provide law enforcement officers with information about the services they offer to juvenile offenders.

Legal Update- September 2024

  • September 20, 2024

This one-day course is designed to address significant criminal law issues that prosecutors and law enforcement officers face daily, and provide them with a better understanding of the laws and procedures that impact their efforts to seek justice. The curriculum for this course is based on new and emerging issues as they arise, with an emphasis on legal updates and practical presentations covering timely and relevant topics.

Fall Association Meeting

  • October 9, 2024 – October 11, 2024

The NC District Attorneys Association (NCDAA) meeting is a statewide training program devoted to prosecutors, and it is approved by the NC State Bar to fully satisfy prosecutors’ annual continuing legal education requirements, including the required ethics hours. NCDAA calls upon the collective skills of the State’s most experienced criminal law experts, guest speakers, top prosecutors, and others with the required depth of knowledge to provide a comprehensive continuing legal education program.

Working With Special Victims

  • October 18, 2024

This one-day training will focus on the challenges of working with child victims, domestic violence victims, elder victims, and those that fall in between. We will focus on a victim-centered approach and the logistics of getting victims to pre-trial meetings and the courtroom.

Money Matters

  • October 23, 2024 – October 25, 2024

This course offers attendees the knowledge to understand, analyze, and organize evidence in financial crimes cases. Some of the topics include: Case Law and Legislative Updates, Romance Scams, SARs, Contractor Fraud, Organized Retail Crime, When Age is Not Just a Number, and Aggregation: How it Works.
